To define mechanisms that underlie progression of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) infection to active tuberculosis (TB), we followed M.tb-infected adolescents longitudinally. Those who ultimately developed TB disease (“progressors”) were compared with matched controls, who remained healthy.
