Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS) is a rare lethal genetic disorder characterized with symptoms reminiscent of accelerated aging. The major underlying genetic cause is a substitution mutation in the gene coding for lamin A, causing the production of a toxic isoform called progerin.
