Rationale: The fibrosing idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) are classified based on clinical, radiographic, and pathologic criteria. The separation into phenotypic subgroups is useful in predicting outcome and therapeutic strategy; however a large degree of ambiguity remains.
